Kelly’s Top 100 Movies…Numbers 1 – 25

Here it is, what you’ve all been waiting for…the top 25 movies of Kelly’s Top 100 Movies Of All Time!

If you want to see numbers 26 – 100, check out here, here, and here. And if you must know why I even bothered with this list in the first place, read more here.

But first, let me give you some movies I LOVE that came so close to the top 100 but just didn’t quite make the cut. It was painful to leave them behind (and this is harder than it looks, I swear). I honestly feel like watching all 100, plus the ones I’m about to list all over again, to see if my list is really accurate, because it really seems to depend on my mood…

Anyway, here are some movies that fell just short: Personal Velocity (2002); EXistenZ (1999); You Can Count On Me (2000); 12 Monkeys (1995); Magnolia (1999); Sunshine (2007); Little Children (2006); Kicking And Screaming (1995); Far From Heaven (2002); Good Night And Good Luck (2005); The Motorcycle Diaries (2004); Ratcatcher (1999); Imitation Of Life (1959); Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939); Stranger Than Fiction (2006); Leaving Las Vegas (1995); Lovely And Amazing (2001); and Kids (1995). It was brutal eliminating these…maybe under further review they’ll be readmitted next year…

I can’t believe there has been no flack yet. I mean c’mon, Run Lola Run at number 2? Really? I liked it, I did. A lot, but #2 all time?

I also kindly submit that any movie with Keanu in a dramatic role should be stricken from the record.

Lastly, Gosford Park was awful. Social commentary and all.

Good job on the list though. I could never have done it.

Thanks for the praise and flack…all in one. So refreshing.

Gosford Park is brilliant. I submit you give it another go.

I just block out Keanu in Dangerous Liasons. He’s pretty terrible, but he’s minor enough and the character is wooden enough on his own that I’m not bothered by it. Incredible performances by Close, Malkovich, Thurman, and Pfeifer totally compensate for Reeves…as well as the beautiful direction, script, and even costuming and set design.

Run Lola Run is one of my favorite movies of all time. Obviously. I love so much about it. Not the least of which is the running…see my book review about the loneliness of the long-distance runner…

No flak because I haven’t seen these. And because my preferences are severely skewed towards sci-fi (TK-42ONE—duh!) and WWII. After that, I have a penchant for 80s movies (there’s a bit of a Molly Ringwald fetish in my closet — proverbially speaking of course).

As for the top 100 list, it is rather ambitious. Makes me wonder if I could rank the movies I have instead of those I’ve seen.

TK42ONE: you haven’t seen any of these? ohh…they’re SOOOOO good.

i like sci-fi as well, but so much of that genre gets the short end of the stick (bad writing, directing, actors, production values, effects, etc.) that i have to be very careful what i watch…i only go for the good stuff, which leaves a lot of potentials out.

the top 100 list was pretty difficult, but i think i’m going to try to do it again at the end of next year, but put even more effort/thought into it. i feel strongly that these are 100 of my favorite movies, but i don’t feel confident that they’re all in the real right places.
