and here they are:
1. Damages is awesome. We are one episode away from the finale (Tuesday, October 23rd 10pm on FX). If you have not been watching (what are you thinking?) then you have one last chance to catch the whole brilliant arc before the finale, FX is playing a Damages marathon this weekend – Saturday October 20th from 8am to 8pm. That’s a full day for sure, but you’d be hard pressed to see a better show this year. I urge you to jump on the train now if you have a craving for a veggie day on the couch with a great show.
2. Pam & Jim. I am sick of the critics complaining about Pam & Jim being together on The Office. The writers are managing to keep it light and fun and lovely to watch. What is so wrong with seeing two great people finally getting to be in love. I think it’s infectious. So long as they keep it funny as it has been then I’m in. Think how many more adventures they can have now that we are not relegated to in-office jokes and secret looks? Plus, Pam has never looked better, whoever is in charge of hair on that show has finally put a bullet in her character’s bad wavy over brushed out look for softer more natural curls. She looks fantastic. Who’s complaining?!
3. Heroes. My disappointment in this show is so vast that it is difficult to measure. They have made every single mistake with this season that they could…at every turn they have made the exact wrong decision. Which I didn’t even know was possible. We have a couple interesting plotlines hanging out there (Sylar/Gabriel/Cockroach boy; whatever is up with Nathan’s “mirror face”), but nothing mind blowing.
More importantly they have somehow managed to make every storyline and character (even the once fascinating ones) whiney, overblown, and as badly written as the Nicki scenes we all so hated last year. I suppose part of the reason this is so upsetting to me is because there was such opportunity to do something amazing this year and they have just totally dropped the ball. Have you listened to the promos?…I’m paraphrasing here but it’s something like “Now the Heroes are being hunted down one by one by a mysterious…blah blah blah” Wait…um…wasn’t that EXACTLY what happened last year? Here’s the problem I think. These creators/writers DIDN’T study their model enough (which Kring has admitted…”oh we didn’t take anything from comics…we didn’t study them” – not a direct quote so don’t yell at me – but it’s the jist of it) and so they don’t know what to do with the characters.
I’m sure they don’t have the budget to go all out effects wise, but they also don’t know how to write themselves out of the the position they left themselves in at the end of the year. So they’re just chickening out. Introducing new characters, which they can take time exploring and growing, but which are so far all really really lame, so that they don’t have to focus on existing characters that they don’t know what to do with and then slowing all the existing character’s stories down to a snail’s pace.
I guess I should cut them a little slack since I wouldn’t be so disappointed if it wasn’t for such a great first season…but it’s just so sad. I’m going to go and cry about it a little bit now…

I agree with everything you said about Pam&Jim!!! Why do people keep complaining they are together? I think its wonderful and enjoyable for the audience. Heck, we have been waiting 3 years for this to finally come… enjoy it!

k. i know it’s a bit late to comment…. but to throw in the $0.02 of guy, i agree about pam and jim. i think it can and almost has to last indefinitely. they were best friends before and if they break up, it could kill the best friendship on show. and i think they had to go there eventually. in my mind, that would have eventually killed Dr. Who (that martha and the doctor don’t hook up). anyway, it’s good stuff and the relationship is still there. that’s good.
k, complete tangent. how i met your mother is amazing. it’s a great show. i was offended by the studio audience for maybe the first 12 minutes. i don’t even hear it now. neil patrick harris (sp?) steals almost every show.
finally, i completely agree, heroes is killing me too. i have no elegant way of describing what’s going wrong because there’s just too much. it’s just plain dumb. it seems like last year was a great tv year. this year, it seems to be hurting. things that had potential but were killed for me include: heroes, californication, weeds, it’s always sunny, dr who is over, and battlestar doesn’t start again until april. lost went bad a few seasons ago.
as for the good, i think dexter is somehow better and even more refined that last season. it’s the best show on tv that i know of. there are a few character and story weaknesses that almost hurt to see because the rest of the show is so filled with awesomeness. again, if you haven’t seen it yet, watch it and also try two shows worth of how i met your mother if you havent. it’s really fun.

it’s never too late to comment!
pam and jim. it’s so good and not even really different that i can’t believe people are complaining. i also agree with you that they had to get together. characters and stories have a natural arc and when you ignore that arc because you think you can’t maintain the story at the next level you are just ripping everyone off and copping out. i hope they stay together, because it’s great to see them together and because the characters belong together and because i trust the writers can keep it fresh and funny, however the office is always surprising me, so i wouldn’t be surprised if they’re able to find a way to break them up and keep it all clever and believable as well.
i have seen a few episodes of how i met your mother. and it’s not bad. i just find i don’t have much time for a half hour sitcom, i have to force myself to sit down and watch 30 rock and the office (although i’m always glad i did in that instance). i think my biggest problem with mother in the few episodes i’ve watched is i really don’t like the main guy…and the main girl (or the object of affection brunette whatever) is not that great either (although attractive enough to be interesting eye candy). neil patrick harris is definitely the best thing about it. i’m also not wild about voice over…that said, i AM wild about Pushing Daises, which is chock full of voice over. you HAVE to try this show out if you haven’t. i’m more apt to recommend it now since 7 more episodes have been picked up. it is the best, most interesting, more creative, most well-written/acted/produced show i’ve seen on tv in years. it almost makes up for the deluge of crap forced on us this season. please, i beg you, check it out.
heroes. what else can i say. i’ve gone from love and affection to hate and contempt. i don’t even know what to do about this. i’m keeping it in the recording queue for a few more episodes optimistically, but it’s not looking good.
i have always wanted to watch Dexter…alas, i have no showtime.
hey, i’ll make you a deal. you watch two episodes of Pushing Daises and i’ll watch four of Mother? i suggest catching up with Daises (only four episodes in at this point i think) online. two and three i think are my favorites, and four was my least favorite thus far, but they’ve all been pretty damn good.
do we have a deal?
