a great journal comic

I’ve been trying to read a lot of daily (or frequently updated) journal web comics produced by some of the great comic artists out there working on the web and I’ve seen a lot of really great stuff over the last couple months – and most importantly really inspiring stuff (Everyday Comics, My Life Comics, to name two of my favorites).  However, one has really impressed me, especially lately and it’s a journal comic by Matthew Reidsma called Drawerings.  It is a little inconsistent in timing, e.g. it won’t go up daily and then three will go up in one day, but the content (and drawing) is so good that it’s worth checking in daily.

I highly recommend putting it on your daily comic reads.

Here’s a little taste, one of my recent favorites…mostly because it’s so true:

What about last nights Heros… Do you think they stepped it up a notch with Parkman’s dad? Sharesh is driving me nuts, how nieve can he be? I just realized I have no idea which post I am commenting on. I was trying to comment on the TV post. Anywhoo… I did think last nights was better. I really really want to know what kind of injury you have that you can’t tell us about. Totally unfair!

Last night’s heroes was the first one that had ANYTHING redeeming in it. It still had a lot of crappy horrible stuff, but the stuff with Parkman’s dad was definitely interesting (finally!). I was going to give up if last night’s episode was horrible, but since there was something redeeming in it I’ll stick around for a few more episodes and see if they can keep the momentum.

Totally unrelated sidenote: someone ended up on my blog who used these search terms “brian kelly hahn” – how funny! tell your hubby someone out there is searching for him…

Also, Injury = WAY TOO EMBARRASSING TO SHARE :)

Hey, thanks for the nice words about my comic (which is actually titled “High Maintenance Machine,” although I had forgotten that I never added that to the Livejournal feed.) The main reason the strip is “inconsistent” in updating is because these are actually pages for a monthly zine. I happen to put them on the web, but I don’t really think of it as a webcomic. Anyway, I like your comics as well. Keep up the good work!

    Matthew:

Thanks for stopping by! I have been adoring your strips…now that I know it’s a monthly zine, I’ll stop by and see about getting it (I assume I can figure out how to get it from your page). I’m not surprised that your strip is not technically a webcomic since the quality is so superior. I really have been looking at your strip as the model of where I’d like to get eventually with my stuff (in a general way of course). It is not going to happen though based on how I’ve felt about drawing the daily strip lately – but thanks for the encouragement.

    Best,
    Kelly
