There’s a new She Has No Head! up on Comics Should Be Good.

I really like this piece today as it’s a chance to talk a little bit about a lot of great female positive ongoings we seem to have in comics right now.  Head on over to check it out.  And here’s an image, which will allow you to cheat…

In case you missed it from over the weekend, I have two new reviews up on CBR.

Animal Man #3

““Animal Man” continues to be one of the strongest offerings of the new DCU 52 thanks to the interesting and consistent work of both Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman.

In this third issue of “Animal Man,” Buddy Baker and his daughter Maxine arrive at The Red Place thanks to Maxine’s urging and guidance. There Buddy and Maxine meet the other Animal Men, also known as Totems, and learn much about “the life web” and more importantly, what Maxine is destined for. Meanwhile at home, Ellen and Cliff are under attack by one of “The Others” that stayed behind to destroy Ellen since she gave birth to an Avatar of The Red (i.e. Maxine)…”

Villains For Hire #.1

“It’s hard to separate this new “Villains For Hire” mini-series from the sadly defunct and frequently very good “Heroes For Hire” series that preceded it, but if you can, there’s a good comic here. However, it might just be that this is a good comic because it seems solidly like an issue of “Heroes for Hire.” With only two pages of the “Villains For Hire” stuff sandwiched into an epilogue at the end, this comic feels a little unsure of what it’s supposed to be. Still, the concept, guest stars, and almost procedural nature of the “Heroes For Hire” formula can work equally well for villains, so if we were going to lose “Heroes For Hire” it’s nice to get this replacement, if only temporarily. Additionally, with the new mini-series in the hands of writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, we have a good chance of getting something great…”

As always, likes and retweets are awesome, and you can read all my CBR reviews thus far here.

Head on over to She Has No Head! today for some (totally dated!) mini-reviews of all the books I read from DC’s “New 52”.

Did I like them, did I hate them?  You’ll have to read to find out!

It was a very good week for awesome superhero chicks in the hands of some great writers and artists.  Too great to pick just one…check these out…

It’s no surprise really that some Cliff Chiang Wonder Woman is showing up.  You go Diana with your badass Amazon self.  From Wonder Woman #2:

This great panel by Brian Michael Bendis and Daniel Acuna from Avengers #18 is the kind of fly on the wall (no pun intended) superhero stuff I love, plus it’s gorgeous:

Jesus Saiz did so many fun things in Birds of Prey #2 this past week that I couldn’t pick just one.  First there’s this:

And then this one, which you have to give to both Saiz and writer Duane Swierczynski as it’s both the writing and art that really brings it home:

Same for this one…although you maybe need to know that Katana is talking to her sword, which she believes holds the soul of her dead husband.  I just love the joke about Starling’s tattoos:

Ryan Sook has been killing these DC Universe Presents covers with Deadman and issue #2 is no exception. In truth I liked it better when the background was more graphic and less detailed, but it’s still great:

Cliff Chiang continues to bring it with Diana on these Wonder Woman covers with issue #2:

I also really like this Daniel Acuna Avengers #18…but I’m a bit of a sucker for the idea of Captain America going through a bunch of headshots to choose his new Avengers team.  Bonus points for Rogue being considered. How far we’ve come my girl, how far we’ve come!  Course we all know it’s going to be Storm, but points for being on the table!

It’s just too damn hard to scan pages out of J.H. Williams III’s Batwoman on my itty bitty scanner…also, I’d need to scan like the whole damn book for this feature, so I’m just going to use this (which I grabbed from DC Women Kicking Ass before it was lettered) as the STUNNING panels of the week.  Amazing stuff.
