Ugh. Got a lot done today (including making a playlist for this book that is actually really helping) but fell well short of my “hoped for” word count goals.  Better luck tomorrow perhaps.

Some CBR Reviews from this week:

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #3

“Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is one of the best transitions from other media to comics that I’ve had the pleasure of reading, and it’s largely thanks to a stable of brilliant writers, artists, and creators that clearly love the characters and world as much as fans do. This most recent iteration of Buffy in the form of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9” is no exception and has been delivering an amazing new series these last few months…”

Princeless #1

“The new series “Princeless” from talented newcomers Jeremy Whitley and M. Goodwin and independent publisher Action Lab is a much needed breath of fresh air on the comics scene.

“Princeless” is the story of a young princess named Adrienne being kept by her parents in a tower guarded by a dragon, so that a worthy prince might rescue her (and then marry her, I suppose). Adrienne is unimpressed both with this plan and with the gents who have tried (and failed) to rescue her. After a last failed attempt, Adrienne escapes on her own, commandeers her dragon guardian, puts on some left-behind armor, and heads off to rescue her five similarly trapped sisters…”

A review of Rachel Rising #3 to follow shortly I hope!

Should have gotten more today, kicking myself a bit.  Going to try for very big numbers for the next three days though…wish me luck!

Inspirational image for something I was writing about today:

I’m sorry but Steve Morris is just KILLING these Buffy covers.  Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #3:

And this is my favorite of Marko Djurdjevic’s Avengers Origins covers.  Avengers Origins: The Vision (one-shot):

This Northanger Abbey #1 cover by Julian Tedesco Totino is pretty freaking gorgeous:

I’m sure this one will surprise a lot of you, but I LOVE this Uncanny X-Force #17 cover by Esad Ribic.  The colors and lights and darks are absolutely fantastic as is the composition and attitude, and though Psylocke’s costume is obviously a little um…you know…I love that she looks a bit fleshy and real and much less plastic than how so many ladies in comics.

Back on track (sorta) today.  Feeling like the MS is really choppy right now, which is bumming me out, but I’m still getting the words down, so, we’ll see.  I did cruise past 50k tonight so that was nice!

Today’s word count:  1,880

MS total word count:  50,761

Inspirational image for a scene I was writing tonight:

This was a tough day. In part because I had to delete about a thousand words.  That’s not so terrible of course…unless you’re trying to reach word count goals. :(

Today’s (sad ass) word count:  527

New MS total: 48,881

Woo! We’re a week in people.  So let’s have a week 1 sub-total count today too!

Even though today is my best word count ever and it all turned out okay, I kind of f’ed up because I had enough time to get more writing done than I managed, but I was just so exhausted from my odd super stress-y week that I think I needed the mental break.  Regardless here’s what I logged today:

Today’s word count: 3,222

MS total word count: 48,354

First completed week of NaNo total: 11,833

There’s a new She Has No Head! up on Comics Should Be Good.

I really like this piece today as it’s a chance to talk a little bit about a lot of great female positive ongoings we seem to have in comics right now.  Head on over to check it out.  And here’s an image, which will allow you to cheat…

In case you missed it from over the weekend, I have two new reviews up on CBR.

Animal Man #3

““Animal Man” continues to be one of the strongest offerings of the new DCU 52 thanks to the interesting and consistent work of both Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman.

In this third issue of “Animal Man,” Buddy Baker and his daughter Maxine arrive at The Red Place thanks to Maxine’s urging and guidance. There Buddy and Maxine meet the other Animal Men, also known as Totems, and learn much about “the life web” and more importantly, what Maxine is destined for. Meanwhile at home, Ellen and Cliff are under attack by one of “The Others” that stayed behind to destroy Ellen since she gave birth to an Avatar of The Red (i.e. Maxine)…”

Villains For Hire #.1

“It’s hard to separate this new “Villains For Hire” mini-series from the sadly defunct and frequently very good “Heroes For Hire” series that preceded it, but if you can, there’s a good comic here. However, it might just be that this is a good comic because it seems solidly like an issue of “Heroes for Hire.” With only two pages of the “Villains For Hire” stuff sandwiched into an epilogue at the end, this comic feels a little unsure of what it’s supposed to be. Still, the concept, guest stars, and almost procedural nature of the “Heroes For Hire” formula can work equally well for villains, so if we were going to lose “Heroes For Hire” it’s nice to get this replacement, if only temporarily. Additionally, with the new mini-series in the hands of writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, we have a good chance of getting something great…”

Miracle I got anything down today.  In fact, I started writing at 3am.  Yes folks, 3am.  COMMITMENT.

I had a long (very stressful) business meeting today and when I came home (after a short nap in a failed attempt to escape the stress followed by a not un-stressful business phone call) I had to write Monday’s She Has No Head! column…so that took up my allotted “writing time” for today.  Nonetheless, I had a scene in mind and thought I could get it down, so at 3am I dragged my laptop out and here we are.

I’m exhausted.  Time for bed and the hope for a bit more time to devote to writing tomorrow.

Today’s word count: 1,077

MS total word count: 45,132

I also hit 150 pages, so that’s nice. :)

This is a great representation of my main character Tessa's victorian house.
