#54 Comic of the Day

How I love/hate Law & Order.  I think it is the definition of an addiction…in the sense that I don’t even really like it and it makes me feel terrible, yet I feel compelled to watch…unable to stop.  And damn TNT for playing them so cleverly back to back the way they do, which is the whole reason I’m unable to turn it off.  The only saving grace I suppose is that I don’t actually LIKE the show, so I don’t turn the tv on looking for it…but it definitely preys on me if it happens to be on…which is ALL THE TIME.

Damn this show.  I resolve to watch like 80% less than last year.  SIGH. That will never happen.

Sounds like your binging on it, not addicted to it. I’ve done the same with various shows (M*A*S*H, Friends, Stargate, etc.). What has helped me recently is the writer’s strike. With no new shows to watch, I have no desire to turn on the TV. It was hard at first, but I can now go a night with no TV and not die. Hard, but doable. So, get a Wii, play some silly games, read a book, and draw some comics. Maybe one of them will act as a filler to replace the L&O binge you’re on.

Never got into a lot of the courtroom drama shows and/or cop shows (save for Without a Trace), but occasionally on the weekends when I’m drawing I’ll leave the Discovery Channel on and something ultimately captures my attention. It is dangerous and distracting!

80% less TV means more DS playing and book reading! That’s a-ok in my world.

TK42ONE: it is could be considered bingeing i suppose. whatever it is, it has to STOP!

Paul: yeah, the tv is deadly. i try just to never turn it on at this point…but invariably somehow it gets on…

One of the things you find out if you’re unemployed, at least I did, is that there isn’t actually as much L&O on during the day as you think: the stuff they run in the AM is the same stuff they run in PM.

What I’m trying to figure out is why A&E seems to only have like 10 episodes of CSI Miami. No matter when I look at it they’re always running that stupid one where the people crash the plane in the Everglades because someone opened the door at altitude.

I have to agree: the writers’ strike has been a boon. When I do watch TV it’s stuff I wouldn’t normally think to watch (like Animal Planet) but mostly I’m reading a lot more, writing a lot more, and (avoiding) editing my book a lot more by writing a lot more.

woodstock: Really? That’s so strange. It never occured to me it would be the same in the AM and PM. Odd.

I don’t really like CSI: Miami and so have rarely watched it, but even I have seen that everglades/plane episode you’re talking about. They must think it’s their “best work”…and just keep putting it out there.

The writer’s strike is actually very dangerous becuase my boyfriend works in the industry. He’s been really lucky so far as work has still been coming to him, but any minute now it’s going to dry up, so I pray daily it ends. However, I’m with you on the productivity factor. We turned on the TV last night after dinner and turned if off like 10 minutes later…with a “eh, guess we’ll do something else” – there was NOTHING good on.
