Head on over to Comics Should Be Good and check out the latest She Has No Head! – a look at part two of my 20 Favorite Female Comics Creators!

Kate Beaton's sassy and surly Wonder Woman

Well, make that PAGE of the week.  And if you think I’m having trouble editing myself, know that I could have easily scanned pretty much the entire issue of Marvel’s Strange Tales II #3 and put it up for contention.  Great, great issue.  Kate Beaton knocked it out of the park (twice!) in her funny pieces, and everyone else brought their A game as well…but I couldn’t resist this page from Eduardo Medeiros’ piece (with an assist by Judy Leheup).  I tip my hat to you sir…awesome stuff.

Easy win this week for Marvel’s Strange Tales II #3.  A bunch of hilarious giant headed Ivan Brunetti superheroes at the gym (and Spider-Man playing raquetball!) who can beat that?  Nobody, that’s who!

That’s right, for my 20 Favorite Female Comics Creators of 2010, part one post, Jezebel has reprinted the article. Woo!

Part two will be up on Jezebel next Monday (as well as on CSBG via my She Has No Head! column, as usual at noon eastern).

So check it out everyone…as I’m such a huge fan of Jezebel this is very cool…in fact I’m trying not to squee myself out of my chair.

And thanks for the opportunity Jezebel!

It’s Episode 004!

Click to listen!

Inside this episode! An advance review of 12 Gauge Comics’ Magus #1 featuring art from phenomenal artist Rebekah Isaacs, who last was seen penciling Brian Wood’s DV8 Gods & Monsters Mini-Series.  A review of Batgirl #16 – is Batgirl’s burgeoning (but so far pretty lame) Rogue’s Gallery hurting her book…or is Steph being her own worst enemy enough?  For our hot topic this week, a discussion of the much tweeted and blogged about comment by Paul Levitz regarding women and superheroes in his three-part interview with Nathan Wilson for The Comics Journal.  And a discussion of what you can do as a fan (for starters – read Ragnell’s letter to current DC EIC Bob Harras – and write your own)!  Do it via regular mail, not email, as regular mail in a pile on one’s desk seems to be harder to ignore than email.  Plus everyone’s picks of the week!

3 Chicks Review Comics is a podcast featuring me (naturally!) with fellow female comics lovers and bloggers Sue from DC Women Kicking Ass, and Maddy from When Fangirls Attack!. Tune in weekly to CSBG Tuesdays at 2pm as we review comics, and discuss hot topics of the week. Don’t forget to subscribe to our cast via iTunes, so you never miss an episode (the subscribe button is on them main page, on the bottom right).  In addition to the blogs above, you can also follow us all on twitter as well: Kelly, Maddy, and Sue. Special thanks to Nik Furious for our awesome 3 Chicks theme song.

*As always beware of spoilers if you haven’t read the books in question!

This is, yet again, a bit of a cheat as it’s actually four panels…but in order to get the joke/feel I think you need them all.  This is from Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen’s New Avengers #7, which was filled with hilarious bits this week, including this excerpt which is about the Avengers talking about getting a paycheck and specifically Spider-Man realizing he can’t get one because he’s the only one that still has a secret identity and that the government can’t issue him a check.  I DO love Bendis’ Spider-Man…it always makes me think I should actually be reading Spider-Man.  Look at that gorgeous Stuart Immonen art…so fucking good!

So there was a joke made on this past week’s 3 Chicks Review Comics Podcast about podcasting in catsuits (if you haven’t listened to the episode yet, do so now!)…and then Greg Burgas expanded on it in his What I Bought Column this week on CSBG…so I decided to do a little sketch for him to illustrate how TOTALLY TRUE IT IS THAT I RECORD PODCASTS IN A CATSUIT (and use my boyfriend as an ottoman to boot).  Enjoy!

*please note that objects in image are generally smaller than in real life…and that the above representation is in no way a reflection of reality…i.e. “these are the jokes people”.

Easy win for me this week to give it to Brian Wood’s Northlanders #35 illustrated by Massimo Carnevale.  Haunting and beautiful.  Love all the white.

…And it’s not in English!  Go figure!

The delightful Mariamma Fonseca at Lady’s Comics in Brazil got in touch with me after discovering The Ladies Comics Project, and the following interview at the Lady’s Comics site is the result of our conversation.  For the English speaking only among you – do not fear! – my original English answers are there along with the Portuguese translations.

The concept behind Lady’s Comics is simple, and quite in line with both The Ladies Comics Project and what I do on She Has No Head! – check this out – from the Lady’s Comics Site (apologies for the rough translation in spots):

“The idea is simple: to speak to women who work or worked in the comic book universe. We came to talk about the characters, the authors, the designers and what’s new from Lady’s in comics!”

It was wonderful to meet some great ladies, on a similar quest to mine, and halfway around the world.  Good luck to you ladies – and thanks for the interview!
