Want to win everything you see above plus a few limited edition signed prints? You’re in the right place – keep reading!
UPDATE: CONTEST NOW CLOSED 8/21/14
FIRST PRIZE (worth $275.00) includes the following: a limited edition signed and hand numbered copy of the hardcover illustrated edition which also includes a sketch by yours truly. Also a limited edition signed and numbered postcard book, a Tessa Battle round acrylic magnet, a Tessa Battle double sided acrylic keychain, a Fight Your Fiction magnet, 4 oversized postcards, 5 bookmarks, a mini-tote, a full size tote, the super secret sealed green envelope, stickers, AND three signed 13×19 prints – one by Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith artist Rebekah Isaacs, one by Ms Marvel and Necropolis artist Jake Wyatt, and one by Spera and the forthcoming Storykiller Novella artist Kyla Vanderklugt.
FOUR RUNNERS UP will get the “almost deluxe package” (worth $100.00) which includes everything above EXCEPT the three prints and will include only one postcard, one bookmark, and no stickers (we’re running seriously low on all of those!)
Unfortunately we have to limit this to US shipping only, which means if you’re outside the US you CAN enter, but only if you have a location in US where your package can be sent/received. Sorry guys, but the international shipping costs are just really prohibitive.
Here’s how it works…
You get 1 POINT for each of the following categories:
#1. READ THE BOOK! – prove it by answering the five questions at the bottom of this post.
#2. REVIEW THE BOOK ON AMAZON, GOODREADS, or B&N! – prove it by screencapping or linking to your review. Reviews do not have to be positive, but if you didn’t like the book…why do you want to win this contest? Look inside yourself, grasshopper!
#3. PROMOTE THE BOOK! – prove it by screencapping or linking to your promotion of the book. Acceptable places to promote? Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Blogs, Instagram and similar. If you are not sure the place you’d like to promote qualifies, just ask in the comments!
#4. GET OTHERS TO READ! – prove it by sending in screencaps (or something similar) of your friends’ purchase of STORYKILLER. Eligible places for purchase include: Amazon paperbacks or digital purchases, Lulu or B&N paperback purchases, or hardcovers via the Storykiller website. You get 1 point for EACH verified reader.
#5. FAN ART – prove it by sending in STORYKILLER fan art that can be posted on the website/blog/tumblr/etc. Only one fan art piece per entrant.
Every points gets your name entered into the contest once. So if KellyA just reads the book and answers the questions correctly in her email then she gets one entry into the contest. If KellyB does EVERYTHING above she can get 4 entries into the contest plus an extra entry for every verified reader. Easy peasy.
Names will go into a blind drawing. First name drawn is the first prize winner, following four names are the runners up.
EMAIL ENTRIES directly to me at: 1979semifinalist@gmail.com
Feel free to send more than one email. If you’d like to answer the questions now for example so you have one entry in, but want to do fan art (or something else) for later. That’s fine.
And you can ask questions in the comments below or via email.
We’re going to run this contest for two weeks to give people that have not yet read the book a chance to do so. CONTEST CLOSES AT 11:59pm (EST) ON THURSDAY 8/21, winners are announced here on Friday 8/22.
HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:
1. What’s the name of Tessa’s primary weapon? French or English accepted!
2. Who does Fenris take Tessa (and Robin) to see in the woods?
3. What does Micah always carry with her? (hint: it’s not Jeff)
4. Who is Tessa’s first kill?
5. What is the name of either Detective Wade’s partner or her police captain?
Alright, any questions in the comments and spread the word around, the first rule of Storykiller is that talking about Storykiller GETS YOU MORE POINTS.

Just a quick shout out to all of you that were so instrumental in helping us fund STORYKILLER, and more than that, be absolutely DOMINANT in doing it.
THANK YOU! And for posterity, and bragging rights (for all of us, cause this is a community win!) here’s the final page screencap:
I hope the novel meets (nay, exceeds!) your expectations, though to be honest, both are going to be tough given the incredibly talented artists that lent themselves to the project – and the general success of the campaign – but I’ll try my best.
If you’re anxious for more on Storykiller and haven’t checked out the website in full, make sure to do that, there are lots of hidden pages and fun things to find like bios and an “official Storykiller Playlist.”
If you’re not already following STORYKILLER on Facebook – please consider doing that. And DEFINITELY add us on Goodreads!
Thanks again, everyone. It takes a village and all that. So thank you, my village!

An avid collector and THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING superfan purchased everything available from THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING book and Kickstarter campaign down to the last sticker and had it all mounted together into this amazing 90″ frame that has plates identifying each print and object, as well as a plate I signed for him.
Absolutely incredible.
Check out these pictures he sent me!
Just, wow.
It’s hard to believe that because of all the artists I have on board for my next book, STORYKILLER, its frame would be even more massive – as there will be probably double the number of signed prints alone!
So…let’s take a look at the current review numbers for 2013!
On Amazon (US) we’ve got a staggering 150 reviews – a number I never even dreamed of getting a year ago when we put the book up on Amazon. Even better, we’ve maintained an amazing 4.5 rating!
On Amazon UK we have 8 reviews and a perfect 5.0 rating!
On Amazon CA (Canada) we have 5 reviews, but again, a perfect 5.0 rating!
On Amazon FR (France) we have only 1 review, but it’s 5 stars!
On Amazon IT (Italy) we have only 1 review, but a perfectly respectable 4 star rating.
On Amazon DE (Germany) we have only 1 review, but again, a perfectly respectable 4 star rating. (thanks to commenter and Marco on Facebook that corrected me that DE is actually Germany!
Amazon Japan, India, Estonia, Brazil, Australia, and Mexico have no reviews at this time.
Goodreads lists TGWWBK with 437 ratings and 106 reviews! Goodreads is a tough critic (generally in my opinion) but TGWWBK is holding strong at just under 4 stars (usually varying between 3.75 and 3.90).
You can also go to my SHINY NEW WEBSITE to check out some of my favorite quotes about TGWWBK from the last year and links to the full reviews.
Thank you to ALL OF YOU that made an effort to review and generally spread the word about the book. There are some really exciting things still to come for TGWWBK and the sequel, which I hope to have out in 2014.
AND…for those of you that may have missed the tweet or blog post about my new project STORYKILLER, I’ve got a new project headed your way in January 2014 – STORYKILLER. You can read a bit more about it here, and keep your eyes peeled for more information soon! If you’re not already on my general mailing list, feel free to shoot me an email at: 1979semifinalist[dot]com and I’ll make sure you’re added.
Happy New Year to you all!
A fan made this amazing THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING skin for his Kindle. He sent me photos of it, and it was just too cool not to share!
Yes!
New THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING fan art!
This is by Adam Greene and it is amazzzzing.
And keep in mind that fan art is ALWAYS WELCOME.
THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING is available in both digital and print (paperback) at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.
It is also available digitally once again on for iBOOKS.
And I have a (very few) illustrated hardcovers left here.
We’re up to 143 reviews on Amazon (US) and maintain a 4.5 rating…what??? Amazing. There are another 13 reviews on various other non-US Amazon sites (UK, Canada, France), where the book generally maintains a 5 star rating (double what???).
Over on Goodreads we have 96 reviews and 391 ratings. Barnes & Noble has 4 ratings (but all 5 stars!)
It’s pretty much awesome, and THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who have helped make that possible!
Keep your eyes peeled for some awesome announcements in the months to come.

Amazing, it’s a day of release post. How is it possible???
Rules: one cover from the “mainstream” (i.e. DC/Marvel) and one cover from the “indies” (i.e. anything NOT DC/Marvel).
From the mainstream we have a gorgeous watercolor offering from Dustin Nguyen for the print release of Batman: Li’l Gotham #5. SO GORGEOUS:
From the indie side, we have the triumphant return of Saga, with Saga #13. Fiona Staples continues to just deliver the most fascinating and wildest covers around. So simple and yet so brilliant. Also…baby Hazel with her horns! Love it:

Sorta on time???
Rules: one cover from the “mainstream” (i.e. DC/Marvel) and one cover from the “indies” (i.e. anything NOT DC/Marvel).
In the mainstream corner we have Kris Anka’s absolutely mind blowing Uncanny X-Force #10. I cannot even with how amazing this idea is from stunning concept to perfect execution. It’s smart, highly relevant to the content within (which I WISH I like a tenth as much as Anka’s covers), and just ballsy and cool on every level. Love it.
On the independent side, we have a SLIGHT cheat this month, as I’m not sure Vertigo REALLY falls on the indie side, since they’ve technically got the backing of DC. However, the content (and cover, concept, everything) of this book feels indie AND given the state of Vertigo these days (great books, but not nearly enough of them) I feel okay with this choice. Regardless, Collider #1 by Nathan Fox is absolutely deserving of this slot – a STUNNING cover that everyone will have to chase for “best cover of the year” (for me at least). Inspired colors, composition, positive/negative space, text/title block design, and concept. Utterly fantastic. This is comics, kids!
