Yes, the beginning of the actual “serial strip”…I can’t believe it either.

I hope you all had a good weekend.  It was Adam’s birthday this weekend so I took him out to dinner on Saturday night to Pearl Oyster Bar downtown which was an awesome success (and as a special bonus I had a fabulous Lobster Roll – yay!).  We also went to see a movie that he liked and I loved called Reprise.  It’s a Danish film (well actually it’s set in Oslo, but the director is Danish, so I’m going to stick with Danish).  Nevermind, I just looked it up and it is a Norwegian film, though the director is Danish.  Anyway, it was wonderful.  We also watched a fascinating documentary called Deep Water about the 1969 Sailing Race Around the World – the first ever attempt for a single sailor to sail the world without stopping. The documentary is focused on the sad and shocking tale of Crowhurst, the dark horse English competitor.  The documentary was in no way perfect, but the subject matter was completely riveting.  That was about it, except for cleaning the house and waiting around for pieces of Adam’s birthday present (a new computer) to arrive.

That’s right.  You guys couldn’t take the “creative” and “adventurous” stuff, so here we are.  Back to Adam’s and my invigorating “real life”.  Like watching a marathon of Discovery’s ‘Deadliest Catch’.  Which makes a riveting comic to read, right?  :)

Honestly though, the show, Deadliest Catch is kind of amazing and horrible.  I mean, it is hands down the most intense reality show of all time, a guy actually died on one of the episodes I watched.  Talk about raising the reality stakes.  Forget houswives and their ridiculous rich woman woes, and the sluttiness of rock of love hos, and even my cherished chimpanzee bros…dudes DIE on this show. I did a little rhyming for you there…did you enjoy it?  Good, because it will probably never happen again.  Anyway, the show is pretty crazy.  It is really fascinating to see how these men (and one whiny woman) live with these dangerous jobs and lives, although it suffers from the same problems of all reality shows, too much padding and recapping, too much repetitive stuff overall,  but otherwise a pretty scary show…or maybe I’m just super afraid of the Bering Sea…which could totally be my own issue…

I’ve gotten a tiny little taste of semi-fame and I’ll tell you what, I’d pretty much like some more.

Adam and I went to dinner and a movie last night downtown after my salon visit (it’s always a shame to waste super awesome hair by just going straight home – though I’m not sure a dark movie theater is really the place to be showing off awesome locks).  Anyway, we went to my new favorite place, which I’ve talked about before, Urban Lobster.  As we’re walking inside, Adam grabs me and says, “Oh my god – Kelly look.”  And sure enough, taped up in the window with some of their recent reviews, is Rabid Lamb Comic #70 in which I proclaimed my love for Urban Lobster.  Hilarious and awesome.

We had our, as usual, delicious meal, and upon leaving we saw the strip and blurb I wrote about Urban posted up on an exterior wall as well.  It was pretty much awesome.  I took a picture of the ad in the window with my phone, it’s pretty tiny and crappy since it was taken on a phone, but check it out below.

Adam asked me if I had any regrets about the comic now that it was posted up on a public wall, and I said yes, for sure, I wished I’d drawn it better as I particularly hate panel one (panel two I actually love and three and four are passable, though the text is a bit wonky) but this is actually a bit of a conundrum.  I know I can draw better than what I crank out for Rabid Lamb, but I’m just too busy and posting daily is just too fast and intense for me to put in the necessary time to get everything drawn at a level I’d be more happy with.  I don’t know, I’m going to have to think about it.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Sidenote:  I’ve decided that should I ever be on Death Row, my last meal request will be “Lobster Bisque, Lobster Roll and Mashed Potatoes from Urban Lobster”…It’s definitely carb heavy, but it’s my last meal…might as well live it up right?

It’s true, though I love a lobster roll, I didn’t actually discover them until June of 2007, when Adam and I went on a trip to see Ween in concert in New Hampshire (amazing show).  While in New Hampshire we went to Maine specifically to visit a restaurant we’d read about called Haraseeket Lobster in Freeport Maine.   That was my first lobster roll and I proceeded to eat them all weekend at any location that I could get my hands on them…and ever since that trip I have been looking for excellent lobster rolls here in the city.

Urban Lobster has become my favorite new NYC eatery, specifically for it’s amazing lobster roll.  It’s on the lower east side (LES), so it’s not exactly convenient for a meal anytime since we are on the Upper East Side (UES) – only 90 odd blocks away – no problem!  But since it is NYC everything is a pretty decent bus or subway ride away, and the East Village area (which is only a few blocks from Urban) is one of my favorite places to go on weekends, so it has pretty much become what I crave everytime we leave our neighborhood.  I suppose it is a good thing I can’t just order it anytime I want or I’d be looking at even MORE weight gain…not to mention I’d be broke…it is lobster people…even though it’s in sandwich format it’s not exactly cheap. :)

How was everyone’s weekend?  I literally buried myself in this depressing query crap, it was so disheartening.  I also realized that I probably should re-write my book, which I’ve always considered a “part one of three” into just a massive one book epic.  Sigh.  Last thing on earth I want to do, but all the advice seems to point to that being the “smart choice”.  I did escape for a few hours on Sunday to see Juno (it was pretty good, but overhyped) and to get a Lobster Roll, which though still good was the worst one I’ve had since I discovered them last June… :(  A bit of a bummer weekend overall I guess.  I’m feeling pretty low about all of it.  How about you guys…do anything good this weekend?

This one is a bit misleading”fact-wise”, though I like it.

In the end we decided not to go anywhere in an effort to save money, and so that we could perhaps go on a “big trip” to Europe (or somewhere out of country) in 2009…2010…well, someday, and not just because we couldn’t agree on a location.  It’s ironic that Adam and I actually both love to travel and have very similar interests, they just never seem to kind of perfectly line up…when I feel like Greece he’s feeling Ireland…when I feel like Philly he’s feeling like Vermont…it’s frustrating.

We had actually agreed to go to Boston for our Anniversary this year and were both quite excited about it (me maybe just for the seafood – clam chowder and lobster rolls – whee!) but we pulled out at the last minute, deciding that the grand we would probably spend on a two or three day trip was better left in our savings accounts considering the year we have ahead (and the never-ending writer’s strike).  It was a good choice.  I don’t think either of us regret it…especially since I ended up getting sick for part of the time we would have been gone.

What about you guys…any dream destinations?  Best places you have already visited?

It’s true.
