A New She Has No Head! is up, and it’s largely about boobs. Good times!

Head on over and check it out.

Hey, Kids!3 Chicks Blue Brown Final2sized

So, in addition to 3 Chicks being on hiatus December as I’m away for the month and in a location with absolutely terrible internet service (or certainly service well below that needed for podcasting) there are going to be some more changes forthcoming.

The big change is that Sue and I are going to take 3 Chicks off of Podomatic. It’s just become too expensive and while 3 Chicks has brought me many things, most notably a chance to interview and connect with some of the best creators in the business, it has not only not made me one red cent, but has cost me more and more money ever since we began in 2010. Seriously, hundreds of dollars over the last few years thanks to hosting at Podomatic and software upgrades and the like.

When I was working a full time job this wasn’t such a hardship, but since I’m a full time freelancer these days money is tight, and the renewal fees to host on Podomatic this year, since we have such a significant back catalog, are just enormous. Excessive, really.

So, yeah. We’re looking into other options, most likely going to host with a friend and then over time, get our RSS Feed under control and get us up on iTunes. I don’t THINK we’re going to have any downtime beyond the planned December hiatus, and the cast should remain easily downloadable as an .mp3 file even if it takes a bit of time to get us up on iTunes, but I ask that you bear with us.

Any other podcasters out there that want to offer advice, I’m all ears.

Any designers out there that want to re-design the 3 Chicks logo (which we have been in need of badly since day one) hit me up. I’m planning to do it myself, but I hated the first logo I did so I don’t know why a new one will be any different!

Thanks for your patience all!

It’s Tuesday…you know what that means…NEW chapters for THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING.

You can download the new Chapters here: TGWWBK Chapters 9 & 10

Or just read below.

If you want the entire story thus far, head over to THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING page and download or read directly from the site.

Sharon is becoming a legitimate problem for me.

Until recently she’s been a thorn in just about everyone’s side, but she’s provided an interesting opportunity for me to do good.  Returning thrown necklaces and other bits of stolen property, stopping fights before they begin, stupid little stuff.  Little stuff that makes people happy and lets me see my mother in my dreams.  The dreams, even if they are filled with confusion and violence and strange warnings that I don’t understand, are still time with my mother.  Until Sharon I’ve been used to people somehow intrinsically understanding to leave me alone, like animals in the wild that know to only hunt the weak or injured.  I think I give off something that keeps most people away from me.  Like potential adoptive parents.  It never mattered much to me because I was always waiting for Jasper to come and get me.  Of course when I was twelve, he was eighteen and he didn’t come for me, so I gave up quickly on the fantasy.  I really had tricked myself at first into believing he would come, but when he didn’t, I unpacked my bag again and went back to my regular life.  It was foolish to think he would come, considering I blamed myself for the car accident; it was likely he blamed me for it too.  But I guess I had hoped that he would come anyway.

When Rachael shows up at dinner with a broken wrist I know that Sharon has drawn an invisible line in the sand, and it’s up to me to step up to it.  I begin tailing Rachael everywhere she goes, becoming her self-appointed guardian.  I see her injury and chide myself for sitting idly by for too long; it’s time to stand up, if not for myself, then for someone else.

There’s a shiny new She Has No Head! up all about my fictional imprint and the comics creators I would tap for it. Enjoy!

Holy Crap Kids!

I almost missed it!  We just cruised past 1,000,000 hits today!

Remember when THIS was an accomplishment back in 2010?

Thanks for all the support – you’ve all been awesome.  Here’s to the next million!

– Kelly

The Jilted League says "Woo!" Also, when 1,000,000 hits comes in November during NaNoWriMo there's no time for a new illustration...just some spray paint effects!

Thanks for making that possible!

The Hooded Utilitarian site is partway through unveiling their ambitious “10 Best International Comics List”, you can start here at #10 if you’re so inclined.

I urge you to head on over and check it out.  The undertaking was massive – not just in the scope of their poll – but also in the way they’re laying out the information – it must have taken an age to compile all the data and my hat is off to them.

Yours truly was invited to the poll, and one of my choices Jaime Hernandez’ “Love & Rockets” via “The Locas Stories” showed up today at #7.

Go comics!

I cannot believe 1979 Semi-Finalist turned four years old this weekend…time, she flies my lambs.

Just wanted to drop a quick post to say thanks to all of you who have made this “whole blogging thing” so successful, both those of you who have been there from the very humble beginnings to those of you who helped to make this blog such a great success over the last year.  I didn’t have time to do an original “thank you” this year, but I thought I’d re-post the thank you from two years ago, since so many of you are new to the blog.  I hope you enjoy!

We fell short of my goal of 1 million hits, but at nearly 900,000 hits, I’m feeling pretty good about the health of the blog overall.  Drunk Cover Solicits have been particularly awesome this last year and thanks to all of you who have been reading, commenting, and promoting those, it’s much appreciated!  I’m also slowly, EVER SO SLOWLY (sometimes it’s like watching paint dry) building a twitter following so if you’re on twitter and not following me…get on it kid!

This week, in honor of the San Diego Comic Con I’ll be doing my now annual “52 Favorite Covers Of The Last 12 Months”, so be on the lookout for that.

So thanks again to all of you, here’s to another great year!

The Jilted League is The Bimbo, The Bitch, The Brain, and a blonde and if you NEED to know more about them, you can read about them here, here, and here!

POLL!

I hate doing polls because if people don’t respond then you feel all shitty about your blog readership…but I’m in a bind and need MY PEOPLE to let me know what they want.

I like to try to be a democracy when I can.

So DC Comics Solicitations for June came out this past week…I’ve been holding off on doing Cover Solicits In Three Sentences or Less so that I could bring back DRUNK Cover Solicits In Three Sentences or Less, as the response last time kind of demanded it.  However, Marvel’s Cover Solicits haven’t released yet, and I can’t afford to get drunk twice in one week (for both monetary and time reasons…sad, I know)…so we’ll let the people decide how to proceed…

UPDATE: The people have spoken…and they prefer DRUNK cover solicits, but they are a patient people, so they’d rather wait and have DC & Marvel come later, and drunk.  SO BE IT.  Stay tuned next week for DC & MARVEL DRUNK COVER SOLICITS!  Thanks for voting everyone.

Cass Cain vs Shiva in Batgirl #25

DC Women Kicking Ass has been running a fantastic series of posts spotlighting the top moments from her poll last month for “most memorable moments for the women of the DCU” and in anticipation of upcoming voting for the top moments of the last 75 years of DC Comics.

It’s a great idea to spotlight these moments in such a way and with the guest writers on board – it’s quite a sight – so far comics badasses Greg Rucka, Gail Simone, Phil Jimenez, Mike Madrid and Bryan Q. Miller among other great writers and bloggers have contributed.

It’s a rare treat to see creators writing passionately about these characters and moments.

As of today we’re on moment #11, and you should really check out the series.  I’d say you should take a look because yours truly wrote about moment #10 – the defeat of Shiva by Cassandra Cain in Batgirl #25 – but with talents like Rucka, Simone, and Miller on board, well, I think we all know who the A-listers are! 😉

But I was honored to particpate and urge you to read about all these wonderful women and wonderful moments.
