Feeling shitty and had to do a lot of podcasting and editing today, not to mention a hangover from Drunk Cover Solicits…but still managed to eek out a decent number.

Tomorrow (Sunday) is mostly a writing day, so I’m hoping that I’ll feel well enough to put up big numbers.  Wish me luck!

Had a lot of other commitments today (Drunk Cover Solicits!) and am still sick, so didn’t do as much as I’d have liked.  That said, it’s coming really easy as we head toward the end here…in fact the biggest issue right now is keeping the word count DOWN.  So many characters, so much to do before the big showdown.  😉

Had to get some sleep catch up today, write a bunch of a blog posts and a column for Monday’s She Has No Head!, plus still fighting off sickness, so didn’t come close to any of my word count hopes and dreams.  But still not a bad day. Hopefully cleared out enough space for tomorrow to be very productive.  For those of you just checking in and looking for Drunk Cover Solicits…they’re going to be done over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Bad news?  You have to wait another week.  Good news?  You’ll have something to distract you during possibly boring and/or uncomfortable family time. Woo!

Are shredded t-shirts back? They should be. In fact, I'M bringing them back! WOO!

Still not feeling so well, but not full blown sick yet, so trying to make sure and get as much done as I can while I can. I still have a column to get down for Monday and if not too sick, DRUNK DC COVER SOLICITS…so there’s no time to not get a word count in. Almost to 75k…woo!

I cannot believe 1979 Semi-Finalist turned four years old this weekend…time, she flies my lambs.

Just wanted to drop a quick post to say thanks to all of you who have made this “whole blogging thing” so successful, both those of you who have been there from the very humble beginnings to those of you who helped to make this blog such a great success over the last year.  I didn’t have time to do an original “thank you” this year, but I thought I’d re-post the thank you from two years ago, since so many of you are new to the blog.  I hope you enjoy!

We fell short of my goal of 1 million hits, but at nearly 900,000 hits, I’m feeling pretty good about the health of the blog overall.  Drunk Cover Solicits have been particularly awesome this last year and thanks to all of you who have been reading, commenting, and promoting those, it’s much appreciated!  I’m also slowly, EVER SO SLOWLY (sometimes it’s like watching paint dry) building a twitter following so if you’re on twitter and not following me…get on it kid!

This week, in honor of the San Diego Comic Con I’ll be doing my now annual “52 Favorite Covers Of The Last 12 Months”, so be on the lookout for that.

So thanks again to all of you, here’s to another great year!

The Jilted League is The Bimbo, The Bitch, The Brain, and a blonde and if you NEED to know more about them, you can read about them here, here, and here!

My review for Ruse #2 is up on CBR.

A really interesting little series that I urge you all to check out!

As always, likes and tweets are much appreciated!

And you can check out all my CBR Reviews thus far, here.

Don't worry...I don't forsake my cover solicits roots...even though the issue is good, I do mention the ridiculous cover!

POLL!

I hate doing polls because if people don’t respond then you feel all shitty about your blog readership…but I’m in a bind and need MY PEOPLE to let me know what they want.

I like to try to be a democracy when I can.

So DC Comics Solicitations for June came out this past week…I’ve been holding off on doing Cover Solicits In Three Sentences or Less so that I could bring back DRUNK Cover Solicits In Three Sentences or Less, as the response last time kind of demanded it.  However, Marvel’s Cover Solicits haven’t released yet, and I can’t afford to get drunk twice in one week (for both monetary and time reasons…sad, I know)…so we’ll let the people decide how to proceed…

UPDATE: The people have spoken…and they prefer DRUNK cover solicits, but they are a patient people, so they’d rather wait and have DC & Marvel come later, and drunk.  SO BE IT.  Stay tuned next week for DC & MARVEL DRUNK COVER SOLICITS!  Thanks for voting everyone.

Final NaNo word count:  21,372 words / 71 pages

So…really…a total failure when you consider 50K as the goal…which it was.  But in order to make myself feel better – in addition to admitting that doing NaNo helped me figure out much of my character and world building work for Pariahs and that I wrote more novel-related words this month than I have in the last six combined – I also did a lot of other cool stuff this month…let’s review!

I wrote this monster of an article for my She Has No Head! 1 year anniversary.  I also wrote four other articles – on the DV8 Mini-Series, Batwoman #0, Sarah Glidden’s How To Understand Israel In 60 Days Or Less, and a 10 Great Women of The Walking Dead...but that 20 Favorite Fictional Comics Females was definitely the big one.

I wrote a review of The Walking Dead’s premiere episode for The Best Show’s You’re Not Watching.

And in addition to doing some nice fun weekly podcasting with Nick and Ross (and Justique!) over at AudioShocker, I went insane and decided to start my own podcast 3 Chicks Review Comics (more work than anyone will admit to you – don’t let them fool you!) with fellow comics lovers and lady bloggers Sue from DC Women Kicking Ass and Maddy from When Fangirls Attack.

Of course there was also the regular blogging here on 1979, which included Cover Solicits In Three Sentences Or Less, Panel of the Week, Cover of The Week, and a slew of other topics that either interested or enraged me.

I also got Ladies Comics Project, Phase II kicked into gear.  We’ve jumped from 19 ladies participating in Phase I, to a pretty huge 30+ for Phase II…this will mean more work for me (yay?) but also hopefully an even better project!  You can look for those columns showing up in February of 2011 on my She Has No Head! column on Comics Should Be Good…but in the meantime, read Ladies Comics Project Phase I, Part One, here!

So, yeah, all that plus working full time and trying to have a life (I totally failed at the latter this month)…makes me feel pretty damn good about that 21k.  So thanks for indulging me.  I plan to keep pushing on Pariahs, and will update as I can on progress.  Ideally I’d like to have a working first draft by January 1st.  Maybe by writing it here I can help motivate myself to commit to that.  Regardless, thanks for reading everyone and for all the great support.  Also…if you’re not following me on twitter yet…what’s up with that?!  Do it!  :)

From DC’s The Source Blog last week, the announcement that as of issue #55, Amy Reeder will be the new cover artist for Supergirl.  Though that should be awesome enough news on its own, the post came with a preview of cover art for Supergirl #55 – and it’s beautiful.  This is going to make Cover Solicits more fun than ever.  Absolutely stunning.

So I already gave you guys some DC Drunk Solicits to help ring in the New Year (look for Marvel to show up on January 1st – it’s the way to start the year off right! Or at least help you nurse that hangover).

I also already gave you my comics Best and Worsts for 2012 over on She Has No Head!

And I promised to stop ignoring the blog…so what else is there to say?

Well, I’d love to give some love to all those people that have been so supportive of TGWWBK over the past months. First and foremost to those awesome folks that gave me awards. You people rock especially hard:

James Whatley over at WhatleyDude says THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING is one of the three best books he read this year. YES!

James and Brandon over at the awesome Comics! The Blog give THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING “Best Novel Our Friend Published”

And Seeley James gives THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING “Most Innovative Thriller for 2012”

All high praise indeed…even if I was possibly the only nominee in James and Brandon’s category! 😉

You can check out excerpts from all sorts of reviews on the updated TGWWBK website, including perhaps my favorite quote ever “… Lola is a hungry conqueror, claiming her title by force and seeking out further fortune like a would-be Ghengis Kahn in a catsuit.” (courtesy of January Hooper on Amazon).

I’ve also started up a TGWWBK Fan Art Page which already has some gorgeous submissions (submit directly to me at: 1979semifinalist[at]gmail[dot]com) to get yours up on the website. :)

Of course there’s also the store, where you can buy limited edition hardcovers, all sorts of swag, limited edition prints, and even the mysterious “blue envelope.”  If you prefer the ease of Amazon you can buy a digital version there, or a paperback edition there. You can also get the paperback version on Lulu (I actually think it’s a bit superior in quality to the Amazon version even though the thumbnail on Lulu is really blown out and saturated for some reason).

OH, and TGWWBK finally has a Facebook page. Please check it out and like/follow/whatever to keep up with all the news that’s fit to print…er…type.

What else?  I’m still writing for Lit Reactor, doing reviews for CBR, and of course doing She Has No Head! for CSBG. 3 Chicks is still ongoing of course (in fact, our big “end of the year” episode full of bests and worsts will go up on Monday).  I’ve also picked up another freelance gig doing comics reviews for Publishers Weekly, so I’m a busy busy girl. There has been some development on my first comic book mini-series (Heart In A Box) but nothing solid yet. Cross ’em if you got ’em!

Perhaps most important and relevant for 2012 is that I got a new agent and I feel really lucky that I was able to leave an agent and also get a new one within the same year. My new agent is amazing and I’m working on revisions to my new book (unrelated to TGWWBK) now, so stay tuned for development there. I’m still out of work, but I feel like the universe is actually taking pretty good care of me right now…thanks in large part to all of you. SO THANK YOU.

So I’m off to eat a bunch of cheese and crackers and probably some fruit, and drink far too much Veuve as I ring in the New Year, so Happy New Year to you all and here’s to an even better 2013 – for all of us!

May all of our days in 2013 be filled with the three C’s. COMICS. CAKE. & CHAMPAGNE. Gods, wouldn’t that be AMAZING?
